Andrew Rutland was previously permitted to continue a limited practice, but had been barred from performing surgeries and delivering babies (related story). In an undercover phone call about receiving an abortion, the receptionist was willing to make an appointment for an afternoon surgical abortion with Rutland.
Undercover female: "My friend, I guess she had...the procedure done there. She told me to specifically try to get an appointment with Dr. Rutland. Is that possible?"
Receptionist: "Yes, absolutely."
An appointment was then made for a surgical abortion that afternoon.
The Medical Board conducted its own sting in which a woman was offered a medical abortion (RU-486). Rutland was taken before a judge who refused to suspend his license, but amended the court order to permit him to do abortions with pills.
