Ach. Somebody smack this bastard creep... I seriously think he's been dropped off from the head when he was a baby..
Killing a defective infant is not morally equivalent to killing a person. Sometimes it is not wrong at all.
KLo writes about infant euthanasia:

"In case you're not freezing yet: (Peter) Singer explains that, "Newborn human babies have no sense of their own existence over time." Hence, they're disposable. "

UHOH... Felos exposed:

The announcement by Michael Schiavo's attorney that he had decided to allow an autopsy to be performed if his wife, Terri Schindler-Schiavo dies, was bogus, no more than spin and yet another cover-up in the case.

The Supreme Court has once again rejected the Schindlers request to reinsert Terri's feeding tube Wednesday. The decision, announced in a one-sentence order, was the sixth time since 2000 that the court declined to intervene in the case. Justices did not explain their decision and there was no indication how they voted.

The 11th District Court of Appeals has announced that they will not consider the Schindler's request for a new hearing.

While hopes seem dim at the moment, I'd like to ask everyone to keep praying for Terri and the Schindlers, pray hard for a miracle, for God to open new paths in this truly difficult time, and the hearts of those who wants so desperately to kill this innocent woman.

Joe Ford, a Harvard junior with severe cerebral palsy, shares his thoughts on Bigotry and the murder of Terri Schiavo -- a must-read:

"Our country has learned that we cannot judge people on the basis of minority status, but for some reason we have not erased our prejudice against disability. One insidious form of this bias is to distinguish cognitively disabled persons from persons whose disabilities are "just" physical. Cognitively disabled people are shown a manifest lack of respect in daily life, as well. This has gotten so perturbing to me that when I fly, I try to wear my Harvard t-shirt so I can "pass" as a person without cognitive disability. (I have severe cerebral palsy, the result of being deprived of oxygen at birth. While some people with cerebral palsy do have cognitive disability, my articulation difference and atypical muscle tone are automatically associated with cognitive disability in the minds of some people.)

The result of this disrespect is the devaluation of lives of people like Terri Schiavo. In the Schiavo case and others like it, non-disabled decision makers assert that the disabled person should die because he or she - ordinarily a person who had little or no experience with disability before acquiring one - "would not want to live like this." In the Schiavo case, the family is forced to argue that Terri should be kept alive because she might "get better" - that is, might be able to regain or to communicate her cognitive processes. The mere assertion that disability (particularly cognitive disability, sometimes called "mental retardation") is present seems to provide ample proof that death is desirable."

Judicial murder, says Nat Hentoff

Her crime? Disabled, voiceless, and at the disposal of our media.

"On March 15's Nightline, in an appallingly one-sided, distorted account of the Schiavo case, Terri's husband, Michael - who'd like to marry the woman he's now living with - said that once Terri's feeding tube is removed at his insistent command, Terri "will drift off into a nice little sleep and eventually pass on and be with God."

As an atheist, I cannot speak to what he describes as his abandoned wife's ultimate destination, but I can tell how Wesley Smith (consultant to the Center for Bioethics and Culture -- **see Wesley's piece on Florida bioethicist Bill Allen below**) - whom I often consult on these bitterly controversial cases because of his carefully researched books and articles - describes death by dehydration.

In his book Forced Exit (Times Books), Wesley quotes neurologist William Burke: "A conscious person would feel it [dehydration] just as you and I would...Their skin cracks, their tongue cracks, their lips crack. They may have nosebleeds because of the drying of the mucous membranes, and heaving and vomiting might ensue because of the drying out of the stomach lining.

"They feel the pangs of hunger and thirst. Imagine going one day without a glass of water!... It is an extremely agonizing death." "

**Stunning

Abortion has damaging psychological effect:

In a letter published in the National Post yesterday, Toronto psychiatrist Dr. Joseph Berger attests that, even "years after abortion," a "profound sense of loss" and regret still remain for most women.

"In more than 30 years of clinical practice as a psychiatrist, I have not come across an adult woman who, years after having had an abortion, has not had deep regrets, sadness and often a profound sense of loss, especially if she has not had any children," said Dr. Joseph Berger.

Research conducted by the Elliott Institute's David Reardon, and other researchers have found a significant increase in mental illness in women with a previous history of abortion. In 2003, the Elliott Institute team of researchers conducted a study measuring the incidence of hospital admissions for mental health reasons, comparing women with a previous history of abortion to those who had given birth to live children. The study found a doubling of hospital admissions for mental illness, and three times the rate of bipolar disorder in women with previous histories of abortion.

Gov. Bush holds 'supreme executive power', Florida Constitution holds the key to saving Terri's life

Jeb, Jeb, Jeb. What is this about, I-can't-help? According to the Florida Constitution, you hold supreme executive power:
Governor Bush needs to read the Florida Constitution," Thomas Jones, spokesman for the Constitution Party of Georgia explained. "It outlines the extent of his powers. Article IV, Section 1 states that 'the supreme executive power shall be vested in a governor... The governor shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed...' If Bush needed permission from the courts to intervene, then his power could not be considered supreme. But will he use his authority to intervene and save Terri's life? He must, for he is bound by oath of office and the constitution demands he execute the laws of the state - including protecting Terri from Judge Greer's travesty of justice."

Rev Jesse Jackson: More Senators back bid to save Terri

Rev. Jesse Jackson said Tuesday afternoon that he has persuaded two Florida state senators to change their votes on a bill to save Terri Schiavo, leaving the measure just one vote shy of the majority necessary for passage.

"Two of them have committed to meeting with Gov. Jeb Bush. They say that they're flexible if they can find acceptable emergency language," Jackson told ABC Radio host Sean Hannity.

Targeting members of the state senate's black caucus in a bid to save Schiavo, Jackson explained: "While we didn't have the specific language today, if I could just get them to shift their will to do whatever [we can] within the law to help her live, that would be a victory."

"They've made that commitment," the civil rights leader added. "I hope it turns into something concrete, signed by morningtime."

Rev. Jesse Jackson prays with Terri's parents:

Joining the conservatives who have rallied to the parents' cause, the liberal Jackson said he would call state senators who opposed legislation that would have reinserted Schiavo's feeding tube and ask them to reconsider.

"I feel so passionate about this injustice being done, how unnecessary it is to deny her a feeding tube, water, not even ice to be used for her parched lips,'" said Jackson, who has run for president as a Democrat. "This is a moral issue and it transcends politics and family disputes."

Charges of unethical DCA activity surface in Schiavo case:

In a stunning revelation by a reliable informant who spoke on condition of anonymity, The Empire Journal learned late Sunday that while the Schiavo case was still pending in the Florida courts, the law clerk to DCA Chief Judge Chris W. Altenbernd was allegedly unethically discussing the case in public, a gross violation of the Florida Code of Judicial Conduct which should have immediately disqualified Altenbernd from all future involvement in the Schiavo case including his recent denials in the case, if not his removal from judicial office.

Terri reacts to friends' visit:

Friar Paul O'Donnell, spiritual advisor to Bob and Mary Schindler, said Schiavo received a visit from her father and friend Sunday night. When the friend, identified as Sherry, recalled their days dancing and partying together, Schiavo ''raised her hands up and was moving and started making gutteral sounds like she does when she talks to her mother,'' O'Donnell said.

Here's one from Cheryl Ford:

I JUST SPOKE WITH BOB SCHINDLER, TERRI'S FATHER. LAST NIGHT TERRI HAD TWO OLD FRIENDS VISIT WITH HER. THE TWO WOMAN USED TO PARTY WITH TERRI. THEY WERE ON TERRI'S VISITORS LIST AND RECENTLY ARRIVED INTO TOWN TO VISIT TERRI. WHEN TERRI SAW THEM SHE BECAME EXCITED AND BEGAN INTERACTING WITH THEM, RAISING HER ARM, AND TRYING TO TALK TO THEM. Remembering Thomas

"I like prayer. It's all I have left. And pain.

When the abortion was performed I was out of town on business, too. I made sure of that. Whatever physical, emotional and spiritual agony the woman suffered, I was not by her side to support her. I turned my face away. My behavior was in all respects craven, immoral.

For some instinctual reason, or just imaginatively, I've come to believe that it was a boy, a son whom I wanted killed because, at the time his existence would have inconvenienced me. I'd had my fun. He didn't fit into my plans.

His name, which is carved on my heart, was Thomas.

My feelings of responsibility and guilt are undiminished by the fact that the woman had full legal authority to make the decision on her own, either way, without consulting me or even informing me. In fact, she consulted in an open fashion, reflecting our shared responsibility and I could have made a strong case for having the child. Instead, I urged her along the path of death.

And skipped town.

It's not a lot of help, either-emotionally or spiritually-that the high priests of the American judiciary have put their A-OK on this particular form of what I personally have come to regard as the slaughter of innocents. After all, it's the task of government to decide whom we may or must kill, and not necessarily to provide therapeutic services afterward. In the Army I remember being trained at public expense in the "spirit of the bayonet," which is, simply put, "to kill." The spirit of abortion is the same in my view, though the enemy isn't shooting back.

I feel like a murderer, which isn't to say that I blame anyone else, or think anyone else is a murderer.

It's just the way I feel and all the rationalizations in the world haven't changed this. I still grieve for little Thomas. It is an ocean of grief. From somewhere in the distant past I remember the phrase from Shakespeare, the multitudinous seas, "incarnadine."

When I go up to the river on vacation this summer, he won't be going boating with me on the lovely old wooden runabout that I can't really afford to put in the water but can't bring myself to discard, either.

He won't be lying on the grass by the tent at night looking at the starry sky and saying, "What's that one called, Dad?"

Because there was no room on the Earth for Thomas.

He's dead."

Do you know whether it's permissible to starve an animal in the state of Florida?

That would be considered cruelty to animals. The Nazis tortured St. Maximilian Kolbe by trying to starve him. I think he lived for about 12 days. In the end, they gave him an injection of carbolic acid. Most people would say that you wouldn't do that to an animal.

Sunnye: Bloggers, be proud

"Congress got involved becasue we blitzed their offices with emails and faxes. That's the American Way in politics. The difference is that now we have a way to coordinate what we're doing.

We petitioned the President and telephoned Florida legislatures.

So don't blame Congress for responding to their constituents (and since they serve in the national body we are all their constituents; as we proved with the Daschle election. Money knows no state borders. We put them there and we can bring them home. We can also reassure them (and certainly will) that we appreciate what they have done for Terri and we wish they would do more.

Now, all that said, the Schindlers seem to have created a Frankenstein. Demonstrators refuse to leave when they're asked to -- and that isn't right. This started at the Schindlers request and should end the same way.

But to the bloggers: You did great, guys. You did what needed to be done, at the request of the people who love Terri best. We should all be proud of our efforts and as long as Terri fights to stay alive like she is now, we'll continue to fight for her."

Shame on you!

I'm utterly disappointed and disgusted with some of the things I've seen and read about Terri on the web. Here is family mourning a daughter, a sister who is about to die an unjust death and some sick morons is crudely talking about "fucking the hole where the tubes was" and some other unmentionables. Which makes me wonder really, what have we become, as a society, as a human being? It makes me sick to my stomach.

I am taught not to wish bad things to others, the three-fold laws I live by; three times bad and three times good, says the rede. But I hope that God will punish these people. Let them hurt us, let them. Because in the end, truth will prevail. Love will. I don't know why God is doing this. Why God is allowing this to happen. But I trust that He knows what He is doing.

There was no need to play God

"What is lacking in this matter is not the correct set of jurisdictional rules but a decent set of moral imperatives. That moral imperative should be that medical care cannot be withheld from a person who is not brain dead and who is not at risk for dying from an untreatable disease in the near future. To do otherwise makes us recall Nazi Germany where retarded people and those with serious disabilities were "euthanized" (that is, killed)."

Terri receives communion

Their hopes fading and legal options exhausted, Terri Schiavo's parents appeared quietly resigned Sunday to watching her die but could claim one Easter victory: The severely brain-damaged woman received a drop of communion wine on her tongue - her only sustenance in nine days - after her husband allowed her to receive the sacrament.

Outside the hospice where Schiavo is being cared for, five protesters were arrested, and about a half-dozen people in wheelchairs got out of them and lay in the driveway, shouting "We're not dead yet!"

Schiavo's husband, who a day earlier denied a request from his wife's parents that she be given communion, granted permission Sunday to offer the sacrament.

The Rev. Thaddeus Malanowski said he gave Schiavo wine but could not give her a fleck of communion bread because her tongue was dry. He also administered the last rites, annointing her with holy oil and giving a blessing. Schiavo last received both sacraments on March 18, just before her feeding tube was removed.

A doctor has testified that she might have been strangled before she was found unconscious. Just go read the numerous reports. And now that bastard man wants to cremate her as soon as she dies, obviously to destroy evidence and cover up his crimes. Which makes me wonder really. America, are you blind or deaf?

It's Easter Sunday where I am, and I have been so afraid of going online, or to turn on the TV today because I was afraid of seeing or reading the unthinkable. I feel a huge sigh of relief came over me when I learn that Terri is still alive and breathing, although her breathing has become labored. I hear that the family unsuccessfully urged Michael Schiavo to allow his wife the sacrament of communion during this holiest day of the Catholic year, and the Florida Supreme Court has denied Terri of her last rites.

Nathan Fietzer has started a hunger strike/fast for Terri. According to Nathan in his email, "We are fasting for one of three different things. For Terri to get her feeding to put back, for Terri to be completely healed, or for Terri to pass on from this earth and be with the Lord. We will not stop fasting until one of these three things happens." So if you've started fasting, please follow the link and email Nathan to get added to the list.

Supporters of Terri in Florida are planning to leave roses in honor of Terri in front of Michael Schiavo's home starting from 3pm Easter Sunday. "We are leaving these roses for Michael Schiavo to tell him that Terri life has dignity and worth. Even though Michael has said publicly that she died 15 years ago, on this Easter Sunday we celebrate that Terri is very much alive," says Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition.

Others will remain vigil with Terri and the Schindlers at the hospice.

Well, maybe it's true. Maybe it is no coincidence that Terri lay dying during Easter weekend. Keep praying, people. Keep praying for Terri, for a miracle. Terri is not giving up, and so aren't we.

As if the circumstances surrounding Terri Schiavo could not get any more suspicious, the Center for Reclaiming America has uncovered evidence that Pinellas-Pasco County Circuit Judge George W. This appears to establish a clear conflict of interest between Judge Greer and the best interests of Terri Schiavo.

Rush Limbaugh: I'm tired, folks, I'm tired of explaining this to a bunch of blockheads who aren't going to listen. Congress decides the jurisdiction of the courts. The judicial branch is not the final authority. It does not have check and balance power over the other two branches. It doesn't. We, the people, do via the elected representatives in Congress. If the courts are not doing their job, there is plenty of remedy that is afforded by the Constitution via the elected representatives of the people. And your view that the courts are infallible, and are never wrong and nothing can be done about it is one of the reasons we're in the circumstances we're in today is because so many people like the results the courts happen to be handing down more often than not that they're happy to rely on the courts as the final authority on everything in this country, and they are not. They were never intended to be. And what's happening in this country, in large measure, and increasingly so more and more, is judicial tyranny.

Death of the American soul

"At some point, perhaps in the not too distant future, the Terri Schiavo case may prove to be the seminal event that sparked the final days of the once-respected and essential soul of America. That which makes the Terri Schiavo case and controversy unique is neither that she has been on feeding and hydration tubes, nor that they were removed so that she would finally and inexorably die. Rather, it is that we, as a nation, have been intimately involved in the death watch and a media event... that of the murder of an innocent woman"

Ralph Nader joins the fight

Consumer Advocate Ralph Nader and Wesley J. Smith, author of the award winning book "Culture of Death: The Assault on Medical Ethics in America" call upon the Florida Courts, Governor Jeb Bush and concerned citizens to take any legal action available to let Terri Schiavo live.

"A profound injustice is being inflicted on Terri Schiavo," Nader and Smith asserted today. "Worse, this slow death by dehydration is being imposed upon her under the color of law, in proceedings in which every benefit of the doubt-and there are many doubts in this case-has been given to her death, rather than her continued life."

Among the many injustices in this case, Nader and Smith point to the following:

The courts not only are refusing her tube feeding, but have ordered that no attempts be made to provide her water or food by mouth. Terri swallows her own saliva. Spoon feeding is not medical treatment. "This outrageous order proves that the courts are not merely permitting medical treatment to be withheld, it has ordered her to be made dead," Nader and Smith assert.

Supreme Court denies Schindlers' request

The decision, announced in a terse one-page order, marked the end of a dramatic and disheartening four-day dash through the federal court system by Bob and Mary Schindler.

From Richard at Blogs for Terri

A CALLL FOR ACTION --
Come to Woodside Now - Go To Washington Now

Terri is about to die. Many are now feeling very frustrated and helpless about what is happening. Let's let the world know how we feel about what our system of injustice has done to an innocent woman.

ACTION:

Every church, synagogue, congregation, parish, and organization that affirms life, IMMEDIATELY send 4 people to represent them to the people of the world.

Send 2 people to Florida and 2 people to Washington.

In Florida at the Hospice. In Washington in the Mall.

Any others who's conscience, spirit and love of life moves them may freely join either one.

Those who are local, perform the following vigil in each capital city of every state and any other city around the world that wants to join us.

Light 12 candles, keep them lit. Light them today: March 24th.
At sunset each day, pour a single cup of water onto the ground to symbolize the water that Terri cannot have, and
snuff out a single candle, another day of Terri's life.

We have to provide a very visual image of what is happening here to the whole world.

You CAN make a difference, folks.

400 white crosses to represent 100 lives lost to abortion each day

"There were so many of us in the room.. the middle-age women, they must've have had like 4 or 5 kids, and they were there to kill their babies because they could not afford to have them. I can't tell you how horrible I felt."

- my friend Norm

Norm has agreed to give me an exclusive on her abortion experiences. She miscarried her twins last year and now have two lovely little girls whom I'd love to lock in my dungeon, Baba who's five and two-month-old Christina, who was born last January. I should be able to post her testimony pretty soon.

Doctor: She seems to be aware of what's going on and appears to feel pain

This neurologist who Jeb Bush mentioned in his press conference earlier today, William Cheshire, says outright that he believes that "it can be ethically permissible to discontinue artificially provided nutrition and hydration for parsons in a permanent vegetative state." But having "met and observed Ms. Schiavo in person" he doesn't believe this should be happening to Terri Schiavo.

He states that "There remain, in fact, huge uncertainties in regard to Terri's true neurological status." She hasn't been fully evaluated by a neurologist for three years, he says, has not had an MRI or a PET. And some of the technology to determine if a patient is in a minimally conscious state has only emerged in the last few years. "New facts have come to light in the last few years that should be weighed in the neurological assessment of Terri Schiavo."

He writes that Terri Schiavo "demonstrates a number of behaviors that I believe cast a reasonable doubt on the prior diagnosis of PVS." Among these observations, he pinpoints: "Her behavior is frequently context-specific. For example, her facial expression brightens and she smiles in response to the voice of familiar persons such as her parents or her nurses... Several times I witness Terri briefly, albeit inconsistently, laugh in response to a humoroius comment someone in the room had made. I did not see her laugh in the absence of someone else's laughter"

If Terri dies, America dies with her. Nobody in this nation will ever be safe again because anyone who is inconvenient - who might cost the state too much money, who is a "burden" on others, who is genetically undesirable.. will be subject to the whims of judicial arrogance.

Jeb Bush can save Terri and win the presidency

"If Gov. Bush will confront this evil by sending in the state police or national guard to protect Terri, he will be remembered for his courage and integrity. Moreover, his commitment to his oath of office and to protecting the citizens under his care will likely ensure him a successful run for the White House in 2008. The publicity value of his actions alone will guarantee that his name will become a household word in America as the dwindling pro-death crowd hiss about him and those who value life praise him.

If, on the other hand, Jeb Bush fails to protect Terri, her blood is on his hands and America will not forget his moral cowardice."

Terri's parents meanwhile, has made an appeal to the Supreme Court Wednesday, according to this AP report. The Schindlers' request goes first to Justice Anthony Kennedy, a Reagan appointee who has staked a moderate position on social issues. He has the option to act on the petition alone or refer it to the entire court, which he did on the last emergency request involving Schiavo.

Even before the parents' appeal was filed, Michael Schiavo urged the 11th Circuit not to grant an emergency request to restore nutrition.

Definitely NOT prozac to my ears:

"They say they are doing God's work, but should consider that it is man's machinery that has prolonged this sad shell of a human being. All religions teach that there is a time to let go."

I quote KLo:
The worst part about this Schiavo frenzy, besides the obvious impending death of a helpless woman, is that it's now so much about politics. Republicans blaming Democrats for her starving. Now Democrats and everyone else blaming Republicans for doing anything they've done just to get "pro-life" votes. It's all so crass. This is a woman's life we're talking about here. This is a daughter and sister her family just wants to love.
Rabbi Aryeh Spero shares his thoughts: Why the Right can't stand by and watch Terri starve to death

"Those who speak of upholding the law are not believable given that there is no free-standing existing law that requires in these situations starving patients to death. We all know that this decision rests on the will of a husband who has a girlfriend he wishes to marry. If understanding constitutes 9/10 of the law, everyone understands that a cruel circumstance has given guardianship over the life of a woman to a man who wants her out of his life.

But secularists are willing to abjure compassion and intellectual honesty so as not to allow a victory for Christian/religious beliefs. Thus their outrage and belligerent reluctance to make any compromise on issues, such as stem cell research, where a religious rationale exists. To them accommodation implies recognition -- a recognition they will never concede.

The procedure of death-inducing starvation is, as Rep. Delay says, "barbaric" and what appears to be the use of the system by an unloving husband to finish-off his wife a travesty and an upending of justice. It is an outcome most Americans can not stomach.

Ironically, the National Organization of Women has been silent and deaf to the distant calls of a sister under the thumb of a cold-hearted man. Evidently, it is hard for N.O.W. to wish victory to a Christian Coalition so at odds with them over abortion and who in this case echo the refrain that so grates on their psyche, namely, the sanctity of life, the right to life. Subconsciously, the intravenous feeding tube is too similar to the umbilical cord -- the inviolability of the former presupposes likewise for the latter.

As for those defenders of criminals, illegal aliens and, now, terrorists -- the ACLU, where are they when needed to defend the ultimate right -- the right to live?

Curiously, the most silent group has been those on the Left always in the forefront demanding "lifestyle" rights. It should be obvious from their silence that when they speak of rights it really means license -- society being forced to extend approbation, the concept of rights, to what really is licentiousness. Others who have lectured us for decades about the need for "compassion" have suddenly become "legalists" with hearts of stone."

And here is a press release from the local supporters of Terri Schiavo:

(Source: Cheryl Ford, RN via Richard at Blogs for Terri)

A Call to Action - Terri Schiavo is now over 91 hours without food and water.

We the people of Florida and the Southern States have called all decent minded people to attend a special meeting with Bernie McCabe, State Attorney of the 6th district in Clearwater, Florida. The offices are located at 13355 49th Street N., the phone number is 727-464-6221. Directions link

Time and date are as follows...10:00 am on Tuesday morning March 22nd We will meet in the offices of Mr. McCabe and present our strong desire for his office to charge Judge Greer with aiding and abetting Michael Schiavo in domestic violence against Terri Schiavo. We will be demanding to have Judge Greer removed from the bench as unfit and prejudice to preside over any case involving a woman in distress. He is a danger to all disabled women.

Judge Greer has displayed his contempt for the welfare of women in general, please read the open letter from a former Lee County Sheriff.

We are inviting all Press and people of the Southern States who care about Terri, to attend this meeting. We are not asking for this meeting, but demanding it. It is time for the people of the South to take a stand for our Godly principles of life and liberty. We are not concerned with the Godless principles of those who place derelict judges in untouchable positions to rule over who lives and who dies! We will not be denied the right to rescue Terri.

Terri is able to eat on her own, follow this link. I personally talked with Terri's sister and was told that she is completely aware of almost everything going on. She shows emotions and can verbalize her feelings, in a difficult, but understood manner. Michael has denied Terri any therapy that could help her to regain movement or communicate. He has planned and executed the most flagrant act of Domestic Violence against a woman. Yet, he remains free and protected by judge Greer.

We ask that you sign a petition to impeach Greer... Also contained in this petition, are numerous "misdemeanor crimes" that Judge Greer has committed.

We are pleading with all civil minded people... come out and help us save Terri's life!

Here's another breathtaking story of a miraculous recovery:

"Gene was a freshman in college in the 1960s and was driving home for the Christmas break when the car he was riding in hit black ice and spun off the road. The driver was fine, but Gene was injured and quickly slipped into a semi-coma. Gene was soon released from the hospital into the care of his parents who bathed and dressed him every day. His days were spent in a recliner chair in front of the television in the hopes that Gene might "see something" that would trigger him from his semi-coma state. The family wore out three recliner chairs but never gave up hope. Gene's uncle explained that he could not speak or communicate during these years and would simply stare out of vacant eyes. He felt pain and would make noises at stimuli. I do not know if he was on a feeding tube. Such was Gene's life for 8 years."

Terri's Bill passed!

See text of bill here

In a legislative victory, the House approves bipartisan compromise by vote of 203-58 after Senate approved by unanimous consent. President Bush has signed the bill into law (see the President's statement here). U.S. District Judge James Whittemore, after hearing arguments for about two hours in Tampa, gave no indication of how soon he may act on a request by Schiavo's parents to order the tube inserted.

William Hammesfahr, a neurologist who has examined Terri however says that she can eat with aid and is not in 'persistent vegetative state'.

Standing with a handful of supporters outside of the hospice late in the evening Mar. 19, Hammesfahr told the Witness Schiavo previously has swallowed pudding and daily swallows almost two liters of water by virtue of being able to process her own saliva and sinus drainage.

"That's liquid and that's the most difficult thing to swallow," Hammesfahr said of her saliva. "If she can swallow that she can swallow food or pudding."

Hammesfahr said there are at least 50 physicians he knows of, in private practice and related to medical universities who have said Schiavo is not in a PVS or in a coma.

Funny how the press keep painting the wrong picture that she is PVS.

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay has announced a House and Senate compromise bill that will insure Terri Schiavo an appeal in the Federal Courts. Congressional leaders announced a compromise between Senate and House Republicans that would allow Terri's case to be reviewed by federal courts that could restore her feeding tube. Opposition waned after House leaders agreed to give up broader legislation and accept a narrowly crafted bill that applied only to Terri's case.

The US Senate convened briefly Saturday evening to give formal permission for the House to meet Sunday, when it otherwise would be adjourned for the Easter recess.

The plan is for the House to act on the two-page bill Sunday or just after midnight Monday morning. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said the Senate then would act on the House legislation, assuming it passes the House as envisioned, and rush the bill to the president for signature into law. President Bush changed his schedule to return to Washington from his Texas ranch on Sunday to be on hand to sign the legislation.

It's another warm ordinary Sunday where I am, but where Terri is, in Pinellas Park, it's a race against the clock. Still I am so glad to hear that fellow supporters, pro-lifers and bloggers alike who have been working so hard to keep Terri alive is now rallying around there, and keeping vigil. Even people from the internet and message boards turned up to bear witness and fight for the life of this stranger. I wish so much that I am there.

There have been some massive updates all over the blogsphere and especially over at Tim and Richard's Blogs for Terri -- please go read them. I read that already three men has been arrested in Pinellas Park. Their crime? Trying to bring water to a defenseless, thirsty woman. Matthew 25 tells us that when we offer a cup of water to a thirsty soul in an attempt to alleviate his suffering, it is like we are doing it for Christ Himself.

Some was hauled away. "They are so determined to kill her that they don't want mom or dad to even put an ice chip in her mouth," Randal Terry, an anti-abortion activist who is acting as a Schindler family spokesman notes. Pamela Hennessy has an account here.

Terri's mother Mary spoke for the first time since the removal. "We laugh together, we cry together, we smile together, we talk together... Please, please, please save my little girl," she pleads.

From ten thousands miles away, I watched almost helplessly through the callousness and cruelty in sheer horror as they try to kill this defenseless woman and I began to wonder if this is the kind of society my son is going to grow up to. It makes me wept. As Geoge P. Bush wrote in his recent acticle, "There is more at stake here than the fate of one solitary woman. [After this Friday,] it becomes possible that, in this country, if the unwanted and the weak are simply too burdensome to us as individuals, that the right to rid ourselves of inconvenient lives will be our courts' guiding principle."

Amber Dolle writes, "What is happening to Terri Schiavo right now is truly a tragedy. Despite what Judge George Greer, the lawyers and the news media want the public to think, Terri Schiavo is not a 'vegetable', nor is she 'terminally ill'. Terri functions as a living, breathing, human person who is sustained by normal hydration and nutrition - the same as every other living human person. However, as a result of today's implementation of the order to have Terri's hydration and nutrition sources removed, she will die a slow and excruciatingly painful death.

The suffering Terri will experience throughout the remainder of her days on earth is completely avoidable, as is the suffering that her parents and so many others who respect Terri as a human person will continue to undergo. The death sentence enacted on Terri today is truly a form of cruel and unusual punishment. Terri is among the most innocent and defenseless human persons on this earth and is certainly unworthy of the treatment she is receiving from her estranged husband and the state of Florida.

While the situation looks bleak, we must not give up hope. Now more than ever, all people of faith - most notably Terri's own Catholic Church - must offer prayers for her survival. It is absolutely necessary that Bishop Robert Lynch of St. Petersburg, along with his brother bishops across Florida and the rest of the United States, lead the faithful in petitions on Terri's behalf. If we allow Terri to die in this manner, it will mark the beginning of the acceptance of euthanasia throughout the country. Every human person deserves respect, from fertilization until natural death. Terri Schiavo is no exception. We must pray for a miracle to save her life."

As you've probably heard, they removed Terri's tubes. According to this note by Cheryl Ford, nurse spokesperson for the Schindler Foundation, Terri's parents were made to leave the room while they murdered their daughter.

Terri, when told what was happening prior to that, cried and could not be quieted. Sherri's sources said that "Terri Schiavo speaks!" When the Federal Marshal appeared at the hospice to serve subpoenas, they were accompanied by local police. In serving Terri, she was asked twice, "Do you want to live?" Twice, she responded, "Yes". Ironically, the policemen outside the hospice reported that she had said, "No". Is there a coverup? Does she speak? There is more to follow.

Apparently, that monster Michael (distraught, she says) is planning on cremating Terri as soon as she dies. Makes one wonder what he is trying to hide. A physician reader at Blogs for Terri said that to demand autopsy if Terri dies, to discover not only the immediate cause of death, but the proximate cause of death.

There is more updates at Blogs for Terri as we speak and as we go along. Please continue to pray for Terri. Pray for a miracle!

Naaman has a great post here: They don't care if women die
Pro-choice and pro-abortion people will righteously claim to be committed to saving women's lives. They will tell you that legal abortion (although "tragic" and "heartbreaking") is the only way to save women's lives, by guaranteeing that abortions are performed in safe, clean doctors' offices, abortion clinics, and/or hospitals. We pro-lifers are supposedly insensitive to the needs of women, to the point that one of the more popular pro-abortion chants is "Pro-life, it's a lie, they don't care if women die!"

From Blogs for Terri:

When I spoke with Terri's brother this morning (he is in Washington) he sounded very tired and discouraged, yet hopeful that somehow, his very innocent sister will be saved. Bobby kept saying just one thing, "Please ask the bloggers and their readers to FRY THOSE PHONES - NOW!"

Teens are getting more than they click for on Teenwire

One young boy wrote in asking if his porn habit was bad, since he still got all A's in school. Teenwire responded: "There is no indication that using pornography causes problems as long as it does not interfere with other aspects of a person's life. Just keep in mind that pornography is actually illegal in the United States for people under 18."

Another teenager asked, "Is masturbation safe and/or healthy for your body?" The experts advised that masturbation is a perfectly healthy activity for males and females. They also said that religious leaders' "claim that masturbation is physically and emotionally dangerous for young people, however, has no basis in fact."

Teenwire interviews Claire Cavanah, co-owner of New York- and Seattle-based sex-toy shops, Toys in Babeland, when advising young teens about pornography and pornographic issues. She explains "that most heterosexual porn is for the average-looking guy to get the beautiful girl". Cavanah also states that it is ok if "you" do not look like a porn star because porn focuses on stimulating a person's fantasy, not portraying reality.

Other articles include: "Are You Experienced?" --this one says that anything goes regarding "sexual exploration" -- and "What Are You Learning in Sex Ed?" And Planned Parenthood's very own "Birds and the Bees" hothouse allows teens to join an online discussion and post and read messages on just about every topic imaginable.

Teenwire also provides links to objectionable sites, such as Scarleteen, which displays sexually graphic and offensive language and hotlinks to hard-core porn images open to teens.

See for yourself.

House to issue subpoenas to keep Terri alive

In a last-ditch effort to save Terri Schiavo's life, a House committee plans to issue subpoenas Friday to stop doctors from removing the severely brain-damaged woman's feeding tube.

The extraordinary legislative maneuver comes after the House and Senate failed to agree on legislation to keep the woman alive before leaving Washington for their spring break. House officials hope that the subpoenas will stop doctors from removing Schiavo's feeding tube at 1 p.m. ET Friday.

"We will issue a subpoena which will require hospice administrators and attending physicians to preserve nutrition and hydration for Terri Schiavo to allow Congress to fully understand the procedures and practices that are currently keeping her alive," House Speaker Dennis Hastert, Majority Leader Tom DeLay, and Government Reform Committee Chairman Tom Davis said in a statement. The subpoena will be joined by a Senate investigation as well.

"This inquiry should give hope to Terri, her parents and friends, and the millions of people throughout the world who are praying for her safety. This fight is not over."

From Drudge via Richard's

**Exclusive Fri Mar 18 2005 00:50:07 ET** The Chairman of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pension (HELP) Committee, Mike Enzi (R-Wyoming) has requested Terri Schiavo to testify before his congressional committee, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned. In so doing it triggers legal or statutory protections for the witness, among those protections is that nothing can be done to cause harm or death to this individual.

Members of Congress went to the U.S. Attorney in DC to ask for a temporary restraining order to be issued by a judge, which protects Terri Schiavo from having her life support, including her feeding and hydration tubes, removed.. (Developing)

A lot has happened in and around the Terri situation while I was sleeping. It is still not over, folks. I strongly urge that you visit and read Blogs for Terri for the latest updates and list of action items.

Source: Blogs for Terri, Dory at Wittenberg Gate

U.S. Supreme Court
There has been an emergency motion to the United States Supreme Court to grant a stay on the execution of the court order to remove Terri Schiavo's feeding tube. You can read the whole motion here. Among other things, the motion alleges that Terri has been denied due process by never having her own advocate, in the judge acting as both judge and health care surrogate during a part of the judicial process, and in a certain other violations of Florida law, including the judge never visiting Terri to make a personal assessment of her state.

United States Legislature
The House of Representatives passed their version of the Incapacitated Persons' Protection Act earlier today. Within the last hour, the Senate has passed a similar bill. Now the process of working out differences in the language of these two bills must happen. This bill would not necessarily save Terri's life, but it would guarantee her (and others like her) due process by providing her with independent counsel and a hearing before a federal court. This has been remarkably fast action for both houses of legislature, and a very hopeful development.

Florida Legislature
A bill to block the withholding of food and water from patients in a persistent vegetative state unless they have left written instructions to do so has easily passed in the Florida House, but a similar bill was defeated in the Senate with a vote of 21 to 16. It's not dead yet, but it is doubtful that a compromise bill that will pass both houses will be passed in time to help Terri.

The White House
President Bush issued the following statement on the Terri Schiavo case:
The case of Terri Schiavo raises complex issues. Yet in instances like this one, where there are serious questions and substantial doubts, our society, our laws, and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life. Those who live at the mercy of others deserve our special care and concern. It should be our goal as a nation to build a culture of life, where all Americans are valued, welcomed, and protected - and that culture of life must extend to individuals with disabilities.

2. As part of the House *adjournment resolution, congress must agree to the Senate's HABEAS CORPUS bill to save Terri

The House (Federal) has left for the night, but they have not adjourned for recess, as was originally thought. There must be a resolution tomorrow morning, first thing to adjourn.

House leaders, listed below, can make a condition of adjournment the approval of the Incapacitated Persons Legal Protection Act (Habeas Corpus) a requirement.

We know as little about these things as anyone possibly could, but we've been directed to ask you that you please flood the following with emails, phone calls or faxes to insist on these conditions prior to the House adjournment.

Remember, both chambers have already approved, in some form, the Incapacitated Persons Legal Protection Act. This is a very small step for them to finalize the measure before they recess and there is no time left for our representatives to squander. Please make contact and encourage others to.

*That the Senate passed a different version of the bill still leaves Terri in jeopardy because House members have already headed home for Easter recess and would not likely be able to take up the bill on Friday.

MORE ARTICLES ON TERRI

Andrew McCarthy at National Review Online writes, "What kind of law is it, what kind of society is it, that says the lives of Khalfan Khamis Mohammed and Mohammed Daoud al-'Owhali's have value - over which we must anguish and for the sustenance of which we must expend tens of thousands annually - but Terri Schiavo's is readily dispensable? By court-ordered torture over the wrenching pleas of parents ready and willing to care for her?

What kind of society goes into a lather over the imposition of bright lights and stress positions for barbarians who might have information that will save lives, but yawns while a defenseless woman who hasn't hurt anyone is willfully starved and dehydrated? By a court - the bulwark purportedly protecting our right to life?"

A man, his lawyer and a judge are about to murder his wife Friday, and Jonah Goldberg is talking bout killing cats? Hmm. Free-loading cats. Funny that. Don't you ever wonder how they ended up on the streets in the first place? I'm not exactly into cats, Jonah, but I love animals. And killing feral (strays or domestic) moggies are wrong, be it Garfield or Sylvester or the Cheshire cat, as is killing Terri Schiavo.

"Can we please talk about rabbits now?"

Bad gurls?

A pregnant pause
Sixteen-year-old Kirsty Fenton currently hangs her hat at Nashville's Mercy Ministries. Five months pregnant, she says she was never educated in school or by family members about sex, contraception or abortion. After glimpsing her baby's heartbeat on an ultrasound, Fenton says she immediately relinquished the idea of having an abortion.

Many of the young women at Florence Crittenton renounce the abortion option as well. Dana stands in front of her English class and rocks back and forth on her feet. She gives a brief report on why women shouldn't have abortions. To illustrate her point, photographs of bloody, disjointed fetuses are passed around. Expounding on her limited knowledge of abortion methods, she says, "When they're vacuuming out the baby, you can hear its bones breaking". The other girls in the class gasp. "That's awful," says Lacy. "I would never do that. All those women are going straight to hell."
